Tinsel and F-town

My mom told me about an article she read in last Sunday’s Dallas Morning News about a man named Hank Stuever who had written a book about Christmas, commercialism and that it was based on three families from Frisco called Tinsel.  Yeah, knock me over with a feather, commercialism and Christmas in Frisco? say it ain’t so!

So, I told my friend Jody about the book, she went and bought the book and read it in one day, with annotations and highlighted sections. WOW.

This book has inspired her to create a theme for our church for Christmas, the result?  Tinselectomy.

  • There is a Facebook site for those of you on Facebook:  Become a FAN!
  • There is a blog to share or read stories of people who have also been inspired to defy and deny commercialism and choose instead to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas: http://tinselectomy.wordpress.com/
  • If you Twitter – well, you know..
  • And finally, a website www.tinselectomy.com

Hank is going to be at the Barnes and Noble in Frisco on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 7:00PM at the Stonebriar Mall. He has already emailed Jody to tell her he loves the concept she has created and will be talking about it at his event Tuesday at B&N.

I can’t wait!
